2018 AFCEA Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium

Innovation Theater: Multi-Protocol Label Switching—MPLS 101

Starting at 11:45 in Halls F and Swing—The Global Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) project is the global implementation of a high-speed standardized routing platform that enables the Joint Regional Security Stack (JRSS), Common Mission Network Transport (CMNT), Army Network Modernization (Net Mod-C), NIPRNet Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF), SIPRNet Access Migration (SAM), Navy Tactical Wide Area Network (NTWAN), and many other DOD efforts. The project integrates advanced MPLS and internet protocol (IP) routing technologies on the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) core to ultimately bring the network in line with the Joint Information Environment (JIE). Two diverse Joint Provider Edge (J-PE) router suites will be installed in all locations, in diverse buildings, where practical. MPLS, complete in FY19, replaces seven legacy Defense Information System Network (DISN) platforms.
