In 2017, Americans spent more than $100 billion on summer vacations and continues an upward trend projected to continue into 2018, a survey from Allianz Travel Insurance Vacation Confidence Index shows.
This spike represents a 12.5 percent increase over 2016, also showing that Americans' spending habits had increased for the second consecutive year. Allianz also reported that, on average, Americans spent $1,978 on summer vacations in 2017 - a 10 percent increase from 2016.

The survey found that:
Millennials (ages 18 to 24) will spend $1,373
Baby Boomers (ages 55 +) will spend $1,865
Generation Xers (ages 35 to 54) will spend $2,628
