LARUBIA DESIGN DEBUTS FLORALS AND FRAGMENTS AT SURTEX 2018

LaRubia Design will make its first entry into the surface design market with its Florals and Fragments Collection.  The collection is a nod to classical botanical patterns and architectural elements in a style that is playfully sophisticated, familiar yet fresh, all at once.  Inspired by a nostalgia for faded glamour and a desire for original, forward-looking ideas, this collection brings nature, texture, and the simplicity of ordinary objects together.

LaRubia Design, recently founded, is the creation of Nancy Brittain, a native of Chicagoland, with a long career in urban planning and landscape design.  Nancy has been drawing, painting and playing with textiles from a young age.  Her interest in block printing and surface pattern design is a natural progression from these childhood passions.  Nancy has a keen understanding of the technical aspects of producing repeat patterns to industry standards for textiles and wallcoverings.  These considerations are always part of her design process.

Fascinated by the mystery and geometry of nature, Nancy explores the forms of flowers and seed heads in her patterns.  From the literal "Chinese Lanterns on Lattice"  to the abstract of "Sweet Gum Waltz" , she employs unexpected color pairings and traditional block print textures.  Nancy also draws upon the urban landscape, particularly architectural ornament and the repetitive built forms of the city as demonstrated in "Art Deco Dream" and "Portico".

LaRubia Designs are uniquely applicable to home textiles, wall and floor coverings, commercial/hospitality interiors, tabletop and housewares, linens, apparel and refined paper goods.

LaRubia Design will be exhibiting at SURTEX, May 20-22, Booth 2430 at the Jacob Javits Center.
