Yael Sonia Introduces New Orbital Collection

May 31, 2018 - Yael Sonia announces today the launch of the brand’s new Orbital collection, debuting at the 2018 Las Vegas Couture show. Yael Sonia is a fine jewelry brand, launched in São Paulo in 1998 and later established in New York. The brand is most recognized for its uniquely architectural aesthetic and the movement of gems within its pieces - setting each piece in motion.

After a successful return to Las Vegas in 2017, Yael Sonia is returning to the Couture Show this year and introducing an exciting new collection – Orbital. This will be the brand’s first new launch since 2016.

Orbital is a futuristic collection inspired by the circular form of an orbit center that plays with inner light and outer structure. In each piece, planet-like spheres and cabochons made of smooth gemstones such as blue moonstone, dendritic quartz, and pearls are embraced and encircled by a 3-dimensional gold framework. The resulting designs exist in a style between the present and the future, and a tension that hinges on that which stays still and that which is in constant motion.

The Orbital collection is broken into 9 sub-collections – Lunar, Stellar, Cosmic, Meteor, Solar, Solar, Eclipse, Zenith and Polaris – featuring suspended jewels that cause us to reexamine our own concept of space and volume. Each of these is distinguishable by their framework and structure, as well as varying use of stones.

The Orbital collection will be available for purchase on www.YaelSonia.com starting June 5th, 2018. Prices range from $1,350 to $30,700 and include rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

“This collection is very consistent with the rest of my work- it’s contemporary, geometric designed for a strong, independent woman. It reflects my fascination for modern, futuristic architecture from Zaha Hadid and Denton Corker Marshall and everything related to astronomy, space, the universe and galaxy.”

About Yael Sonia

Growing up between New York, Paris, and São Paulo, Yael Sonia was exposed to art and gems, as well as visually rich and multicultural environments, from an early age. After graduating from Parsons School of Design, she began creating her own handmade, sculptural designs.

In 1998, while living in São Paulo, Yael established her eponymous brand. Two years later she created what was to become her most recognizable collection: Perpetual Motion, so named because of the constant, rolling movement of perfectly round gemstones suspended in sleek cages of gold. The design, inspired by the playful magic of toys, was also what marked her transition from purely artistic expression to wearable fine jewelry.

Since then, her designs have won multiple awards and been worn by celebrities, but they are still brought to life by the handiwork of stonecutters and goldsmiths, using the beauty of Brazilian gemstones. Each collection maintains a sense of play, a contemporary energy, and clean-lined beauty. In her 20th anniversary year, she continues to celebrate kinetic design and pieces that complement the strength and beauty of the women who wear them.
