Exploring contrast in geometric and organic form, clarity and opacity, turbulence and calm, colors of the region permeate new artworks, creating a nuanced palette that reflects its geology and climate.
The original color studies are made by combining handmade paint with found rock, earth and indigenous flora. This organic material interacts with pure pigment, adding the granular texture and unexpected colors that give each print its unique character, some quiet, others intense.
The first prints in the series were a creative accident when the East River in NY froze, depositing shards of mineral rich silt on its banks as the ice cracked. Color studies made with this found material and natural paint created an intriguing fusion of tone and texture. Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the U.K. stocks a curated range from England. This new series explores the colors of California, Texas, the Southern States, New York, and north into Canada.
The museum quality prints are designed to be displayed individually, or in curated series of three where they take on a kinetic energy as color and form interact. Printing in archival inks on pure cotton rag paper enhances the quality of the original artworks. Also, ‘Cards to Keep’ - a small print mounted on a greeting card, removable to frame, the perfect card/gift combination!

The designers
Whitebeam Studio is an independent designer/maker studio founded by English artist Holly AllenCooper and Diana Allen, a graphic designer. Their work explores the fusion of architectural geometry and freeform imagery and is characterized by an investigative approach to materials and techniques. At studios in Brooklyn and London, Diana and her daughter Holly design collaboratively, the range of their work reflecting their arts backgrounds in sculpture, photography and design.
