BEST PRACTICES FOR VOLTAGE AND REACTIVE REGULATION FOR RENEWABLE POWER PLANTS (Room C142)

04 May 16
3:15 PM - 5:15 PM

Tracks: Panel Session

New voltage regulation requirements are either in practice or proposed for the US renewable fleet. ERCOT requires voltage regulation presently and CAISO is submitting a proposal to require voltage regulation from all renewable plants. IEEE 1547, which previously prohibited voltage regulation by renewable resources, is being revised to require sophisticated voltage regulation. This panel will present existing and proposed requirements for voltage regulation in North America and studies by major power system consultants, describing how the power system can be designed and controlled to comply.
