As agencies such as corrections have limited resources for mental health treatment, thinking outside the box is key in the implementation of group work for those with severe mental illness. Two evidence-based practices that have been found to be effective in the community were adapted for use in corrections and will be highlighted in this session: (1) illness management and recovery, and (2) social skills training for schizophrenia. An overview, empirical support, and experiential learning will be provided for each practice.
