The creative arts have been used in counseling and mental health since ancient times. In this presentation, Dr. Gladding will examine the research behind the use of the creative arts and which art forms are tried and true and which are new. He will present strategies for using music, writing, drama, humor, movement, painting, and photography in the counseling process. New ways of working, such as animal-assisted therapy and therapeutic horticulture will also be covered.
