Tracks: Injection Technology

While the coaxial burner technology revolutionized the EAF industry decades ago, a new technology now challenges its reign. This paper shares the latest results from different mills where use of the latest generation of the SIS (Siemag Injection System) has resulted in significant natural gas and oxygen savings without increasing electrical consumption. Furthermore, injector plugging has been nearly eliminated and service life has increased. These impressive results are due to an innovative design, which uses a coaxial gap with internal combustion exactly adjusted to the central jet requirements, instead of a multitude of bore holes with external combustion. Through the use of advanced computational fluid dynamics, the injector design has been optimized, resulting in reduced mass, enhanced shrouding capabilities and maximized supersonic jet length.
