Tracks: AHSS Processing, Applications & Quality Control

The objective is to assess the efficacy of implementing the Quench and Partition (QP) process within the framework of a large-scale galvanizing line, so as to achieve mechanical properties desired for third-generation advanced high-strength steels (3GAHSS). Various compositions of low-carbon, medium-manganese steels are heat treated using temperature and time parameters in line with those observed in existing steel mills. Intermediate strain rates are used during mechanical testing to correlate formability with heat treatments. Furthermore, x-ray diffraction, electron backscatter diffraction, and optical microscopy are employed to characterize the response of the microstructure to this form of QP processing.
