Tracks: Blast Furnace Technology Development & Research II

The premature failure of copper staves in the lower stack and bosh is frequently the reason for an interim blast furnace repair at great cost to the blast furnace owner. Protective accretions may form on the stave hot face, but if these accretions are lost, the stave is exposed to abrasion from the descending burden materials that increases copper wear and results in cooling circuit failures. Such failures dramatically reduce stave life and lead to an early blast furnace repair/reline. New technology developments for managing premature stave wear will be presented, including specific discussion around imminent stave failure diagnosis and advances in blast furnace cooling technology.
