Global reaction mechanisms are employed for CFD modelling. However, these mechanisms neglect radicals and other intermediates and, thus, can give significantly different results compared to complex mechanisms. In this work, an existing global gas phase mechanism for the CFD modeling of blast furnaces is updated and reviewed. The update focuses on implementing the latest available kinetic parameters retrieved under blast furnace–like conditions. In a critical review, the performance of the updated global mechanism is evaluated against complex mechanisms, considering different furnace zones. This thoroughly reviewed mechanism may contribute to better accuracy of gas phase predictions in blast furnaces.
