In order to enhance the sealing and coke yield of a coke oven, and to reduce the fuel consumption, the author has developed eco-friendly refractories for high-capacity coke ovens. Firstly, it contains a long-service-life pre-cast material with composite ceramic surface, having good sealing and thermal insulation. Secondly, it is a new type of energy-saving silica material with high density and high thermal conductivity for coke oven walls, along with homophase silica mortar. After optimized design, the materials were applied at Baosteel. Energy consumption was reduced by 20–30%, emissions were reduced by 15–20% and coke yield rate was increased by 5–10%.
