Up to now, it has not been possible to measure mechanical steel strip properties in-line directly. The state-of-the-art method has been indirect by the use of electromagnetic measurement, especially the measurement of the magnetization of the device under test. This paper shows the use of the measurement of the magnetization for characterization of the magnetic behavior of steel (especially Si steel) on the one hand and the calculation of mechanical steel strip properties on the other hand, based on the measured results. The latter is done by regression calculation, where the parameters are derived by laboratory sample testing. This leads to reliable results for tensile strength and yield strength. This paper will show first results for an additional mechanical and electromagnetic parameter that is of importance for steel strip production processes. Results will be discussed, and an outlook to industrial realization will be given.
