Tracks: Blast Furnace Hearth

An investigation on lining and stave erosion of the No. 6 BF (3,200 m3) at WISCO was carried out during its intermediate relining. The results show that combined bricks in the tuyere region have been eroded away, no annular brick joints were observed at the top of the hearth carbon brick, and some of the ceramic cups are still preserved. The survey also found that the fifth and sixth sections of the cooling staves were damaged severely (located at the joints between the hearth and bosh), while the seventh and eighth sections of the cooling staves were nearly undamaged. The analysis indicated that the hearth of No. 6 BF can satisfy the requirement of a long campaign, so that the BF can be used more than 15 years in one campaign. The new design has been adopted very well on No. 6. BF after intermediate relining.
