In February, a tornado ripped through New Orleans, damaging USDA’s National Finance Center (NFC), which processes payroll and other human resources functions for 172 agencies, pays USDA vendors and distributes block grants. Though 1,300 NFC employees and contractors were evacuated due to the tornado, output was never interrupted.
