Traumatic or adverse experiences can undermine students’ ability to learn, form relationships, and manage their feelings and behavior. As a result, schoolwide trauma-informed approaches have grown throughout the nation. However, a trauma-informed approach should also be intentionally applied to special education and Section 504 processes. In this session, school psychologist Eric Rossen will focus on a trauma-informed approach to developing IEPs and 504 plans, including the evaluation, team meetings, engaging caregivers and other stakeholders, and goal-setting.
