Debate Room: Could Psychometrics Actually be a Good Thing? (Room 205)

04 Jul 18
6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

Tracks: Debate

Cambridge Analytica has been lambasted for using big-data psychology to gauge voter sentiment. Isn’t gauging voter sentiment exactly what elections are supposed to do except not very often? Suppose we used the Internet as an ongoing plebiscite, continually referring policy issues to a popular vote. Would that work better or worse than what we’ve got now, and what knock-off effects would you expect to see develop? Debate Room is not a heated debate but a fast-paced, moderated discussion where everyone gets to be heard, and the most interesting speaker gets a prize!
