The Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. In response to the crisis, John Powel was called to active duty in the Air Force and has been fascinated by the near disaster ever since. As historical information, some of it classified for as long as 50 years, became available, Powell accumulated documents, reconnaissance photos, and other data to learn the true significance and sequence of relevant events. This presentation will explore surprising facts about the moment when the Cold War almost turned red-hot.
