The Good Hike: One Combat Vietnam Veteran's Quest to Find Peace on the Appalachian Trail (Room JW Grand Ballroom 7)

05 Jul 18
4:30 PM - 5:45 PM

Tracks: Speaker

In 1967-68, as a combat soldier, Tim grew to loathe the impenetrable jungle of Vietnam. For 40-plus years after, he feared entering the woods. In 2009, he confronted his fears with a walk of the Appalachian Trail, all 2,178.3 miles of it. His trail journal evolved into his book, The Good Hike, a tale of PTSD, and the healing powers of friendship and love found along the way. The Good Hike interweaves memories of war with the beauty of the trail. The result is sometimes funny and sometimes terrifying but always enlightening. Tim will tell stories of the trail and Vietnam, talk candidly about how he confronted his post-traumatic stress issues, as well as give practical tips for those interested in taking on a long distance hike. The Good Hike is Tim’s story of finding peace, buoyed by the beauty of his surroundings and the camaraderie of his fellow hikers. For more information, visit Naneek.com or email timkeenan@live.com.
