Anti-Zionism and Anti-Semitism: The Dynamics of Delegitimization

Since the year 2000, anti-Semitism has been on the upsurge in numerous countries. It takes various forms, some of which are familiar to us from past expressions of anti-Jewish hatred and hostility and some of which are relatively new. This lecture will give an account of these developments, review some of their historical and ideological sources, and seek in particular to clarify the connections between contemporary anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. Among other questions to be raised are those that can effectively define anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism and distinguish between legitimate, or normative, criticism of Israel and its opposite.
