I propose to tell the story of Cuchulain, the Irish Hero whose 1st century exploits are recorded in the Ulster Cycle of Irish Mythology. From his unusual birth he displayed the traits of a warrior in early childhood. The story tells how he came to be called Chulain’s Hound. As he matured, the King, seeing his potential, sent him to be trained by the war goddess Scatha. In training, he met his lifelong friend, Freida. They shared many adventures involving magic, maidens, and monsters. But the story climaxes with an episode of cattle rustling. In the ensuing battle, known as the Cattle Raid of Cooley, the friends have hired on to represent opposing sides in a duel to the death. The primary objective of this presentation is to entertain the listeners. Although, being Mensans, I would not be surprised if they learned something, too.
