The author of A Leaf of Voices will discuss the attitudes and experiences in the Civil War from the perspective of the ordinary soldiers. Their personal stories are detailed in the letters they wrote home and in stories of heroism, hardship, camaraderie, and even humor. The letter writers were from all walks of life: doctors, ministers, officers, enlisted men, all fighting for a cause in which they strongly believed. The speaker will include profiles of the more outstanding characters, along with a short slideshow, and selected readings from letters in the book.
