Speaker(s): Russell Waters
Waters begins with a rapid-fire overview of Russia, including the history, geography, people, and politics – and a plethora of pictures. A contrast will be drawn between development in Western Europe and the United States versus development in Russia. Modern events from World War II to the present will be discussed from both Western and Russian points of view. The Ukrainian situation, sanctions, and other rifts between the West and Russia will be discussed with an eye toward understanding the different agendas of East and West and how those affect political stances. Finally, we will look at the question, “Putin – good or bad for Russia and the rest of the world?” Waters will draw on his many visits to the Russian Federation and lessons learned from founding a law firm in Moscow, along with his wide-ranging discussions with a variety of individuals East and West.
