Tracks: Tours

Through a special friendship that Central Indiana Mensa has with Dr Jonathan Eller (Chancellor’s Professor of English and Director of Indiana University’s Center for Ray Bradbury Studies) and Julia Whitehead (CEO and Founder of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library), you can experience the unique opportunity to “meet” both Ray Bradbury and Kurt Vonnegut while in Indianapolis.

This tour leaves the JW Marriott at 8:30am and travels to the Center for Ray Bradbury Studies. You will meet with Dr Eller and his wife who became part of Mr Bradbury’s family through their close friendship. Mr Bradbury’s office was donated by his daughters and moved to the IUPUI campus. You will see many artifacts including his typewriter, photos and awards, and a vast collection of papers and books. Dr and Mrs Eller have amazing personal stories to tell.

After your visit, you will move on to the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library to meet with their able and knowledgeable staff. (Try to stump Library Curator Chris Lafave with a Vonnegut question. You won’t.) You will see a collection of Mr Vonnegut’s personal items (including his typewriter), books and artwork, and hear about his life and career, including growing up in Indy.

Two typewriters. Two men who explored their world and other dimensions. One great tour.

Because these venues are intimate, we are limiting this tour to 30 people. You will be traveling by air-conditioned trolley. Return will be in time for lunch.

Please note this tour is through special arrangements with both facilities and is not affiliated with the company providing the other tours. Please direct any questions to tours@ag.us.mensa.org. Tickets will be sold at registration at the AG.

Please be at the Event Center entrance (1st floor conference center) 30 minutes before start time (i.e., bus leaving time) to check in. Please note this tour is through special arrangements with both facilities and is not affiliated with the company providing the other tours.
