A nursing supervisor at the Vermillion County (Indiana) Hospital observed puzzling deaths which prompted her to check which nurses were working when the patients died. The patients were said to have been in stable condition before they suddenly died. “I saw that I had a pattern, that there was one person present a majority of the time,” Dawn Stirek told the Indiana Board of Nursing in 1995. All the victims, who were ages 56 to 89, were under the care of one Licensed Practical Nurse — Orville Lynn Majors Jr. This presentation presents a view of this case from the perspective of a forensic document examiner. The Indiana State Police was the primary law enforcement agency.
