Tracks: TRACK G - Renewable Energy Strategy & Technology

It has been predicted that renewable energy will be the fastest growing energy source between 2015 and 2035 and solar generation is expected to play a key role in this growth story. Our presentation will share experiences in helping implement optimum strategies for procurement, project development and project structuring in this fast moving market. #1 - Utility Scale Solar A number of national utilities have successfully run a number of rounds of competitive reverse auctions across Asia. Having advised developers and procuring bodies across the globe on such projects, we propose to provide a review of key risks and challenges in implementing a successful programme. #2 – Rooftop opportunities Alongside the implementation of utility scale solar projects, we are also seeing increased activity in the rooftop solar PV market. This includes portfolio players and project structures that involve grouping together buying power to bring utility size scale to the rooftop market. We will consider key issues and risks in developing and financing these projects. #3 – Corporate PPAs The rise of corporate PPAs in the solar market is of particular interest. We are seeing increasing activity from large corporates wishing to enter into long terms PPAs with the view of securing supplies of renewable energy via on-site sources. #4 – Emerging trends In our work, we advise on transactions spanning the full breadth of the energy sector. We are acutely aware of the need to integrate solar projects into a nation’s wider energy eco-system as well as the impact increasing intermittent technologies has on distribution and transmission networks. As part of our presentations we will consider how storage can be utilised across a range of solar PV projects and provide insight into key considerations for financing storage projects. We will also focus on the opportunities and disruptions brought about by new smart technologies.
