Southeast Asia is often named as a region of growth opportunities and their power demand will not only grow as they become wealthier but power will also serve as an engine for their growth. However, the potential economic growth is likely to be hindered due to power shortages driven by insufficient power investments and fuel shortages. This paper will identify the opportunities for 1) power generation investments, 2) transmission investment, 3) fuel related infrastructure investments and 4) fuel export destinations arising from the power shortages through establishing a comprehensive power outlook. The outlook will provide a view on the future fuel mix, fuel and power demand, taking into consideration the respective countries’ power policies and targets, current and future domestic and imported fuel availability.
