Optimizing Steam Turbine Flexible Operation (Room Garuda 10B, 1st Floor)

Power electricity market has dramatically changed over the last decades. Many power plants had to adapt the generated power according to a significant difference in the demand. Nowadays, renewable energy has been penetrated the market and fossil fuel units are still barely operated at rated load, increasing the operating hours at partial load or, in some cases, minimum load within operational range. Under these conditions, customers demand for flexible operation to meet market requests such as wide operable load range, minimizing the starting up time, corresponding to the rapid load change for fossil fuel units. As a result the operation flexibility and performance of the unit contributes to increase commercial benefits from its long term operation. Therefore, OEM can consider that an accurate flexible operation plan will prevent the occurrence of potential troubles and improve reliability and performance of Steam Turbine. This paper explains some items for flexible operation and effect of increasing flexibility. We present our latest technology and the recommended upgrades to be considered for the flexibility of the unit.
