In the era of de-carbonization, moving the world towards renewables and nuclear with more diversified power sources and hybrid power plants, The market demands affordable through life and flexible Power Plants integrating , storage and distributed generation in areas where grid infrastructure is less developed . On this backdrop the Rolls-Royce Power Systems Company Bergen-Engines AS has developed a highly flexible configurable and scalable power plant solution suitable for the hybrid generation. The solution is scalable from 20 MW to 1 GW and offers customer, end users and EPC contractors a like a simple design that is cost effective and easy to construct using local labour that enhances grid stability and harmonics when combined with either renewable energy sources or battery storage The Power Plant design is optimally utilizing the features of the latest generation Bergen gas and diesel engines in combination with heat recovery, power electronics remote operation and predicted through life maintenance of systems that comprise the Hybrid Power Plant or deliver power to a micro gird . This paper presents the principles of the flexible power plant architecture including its pedigree and rationale. The paper covers: • Power Plant General arrangements • Gen Set Architecture • Balance of Plant • Ease of construction • Hybrid switching • Micro girds • Battery applications • Fast start up and response • Transient Load Response (grid stability enhancer) • Service and maintenance Models. Optimizing total cost of ownership.
