Joel Cort, Associate Professor, University of Windsor
While there is great promise for digital-human simulations in ergonomics, this potential has not been met within the automotive industry because of the time needed to produce all the digitally represented human manikin motions associated with every task within the simulation. To address this issue, Dr. Cort has examined the feasibility of wearable inertial tracking systems — camera-less motion capture technology — to capture the kinematic behavior of assembly operators to use for creating fully dynamic workstation simulations. While he sees great potential for this technology when combined with digital simulation software, Dr. Cort will explain his conclusions on the suitability of the technology for use in performing accurate digital workstation simulations.
