WOCN® Society’s 50th Annual Conference

(PP307) Relationship of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Certified Nurses and Healthcare-Acquired Conditions in Acute Care Hospitals (Room 108)

This session focuses on the impact of WOC nurse certification on patient outcomes. Diane Boyle and Sandra Bergquist-Beringer will present their study that evaluated the influence of certified WOC nurses on two common healthcare-acquired conditions prevalent in acute care facilities, pressure injury and catheter-associated urinary tract infection. These researchers will provide evidence that CWOCN, CWCN, and CWONs are an important factor in achieving better pressure injury outcomes in the acute care setting and will also describe the non-significant relationship found between hospital employment of certified continence care nurses and catheter-associated urinary tract infection rates. Dr. Boyle and Dr. Bergquist-Beringer will discuss the implication of their findings and strategies for further research.
