Congress makes its voice heard on US aviation policy – including UAS policies – through legislation to reauthorize the FAA. This class will examine UAS provisions in House and Senate FAA reauthorization bills and the prospects for passage before current FAA authorities expire on September 30, as well as ways in which the bills demonstrate any commitment to advance the industry and ways in which they fall short. It will consider the key differences between the two pieces of legislation and include an informed discussion on how they should be improved before a final bill goes to the President for his signature. Topics to be covered include unmanned traffic management (UTM), countermeasures, and Section 336, among others.
