Tracks: TRACK F - Capitalizing on Digitalization

This is update of the past papers in Power Gen Asia. In plant operation and maintenance(O&M), digital transformation is on process and digital applications and solutions in the initiative have been presented. Up to date actual utilization and contributions are experienced in the market to improve O&M, which are discussed in this paper. Predictive analysis is one of major applications in IoT. We have almost 20-year experience in remote monitoring center where advanced pattern recognition (APR) called as Mahalanobis-Taguchi method was deployed and utilized by OEM experts to predict failures early by detecting anomaly of operating data. In 2017, the APR was converted to Software as a Service and provided for plant operators in China. The software works as predictive analysis containing root cause analysis of detected failures by pattern matching as well as anomaly detection by APR. The equipment coverage of the software started from gas turbine, currently expanding to steam turbine and BOPs. The solution and experience are shared. This is a solution to minimize forced outage and maintenance cost of power plants. As such, digital solutions have a significant potential to improve plant profitability, and advanced controls to improve plant performance, flexibility and maintainability are also market expectations. In this area, several applications are experienced in multiple plants and they recognized quantified profits. Those experiences are introduced in this paper and furthermore user-friendly application scheme is also suggested. In the scheme, each of advanced controls is selectively enabled on a demand basis by plant operators where the control works to optimize plant operation considering operating conditions and business profiles. Enabling plant control would be solutions to help plant operators manage dynamic market where they are exposed to diverse requirements over the plant life. Those update of digital solutions and experiences are key message of the paper.
