Tracks: TRACK C - Optimizing Plant Operation

The electricity generation business is a long term business. The timeline for business cases can extend up to 40 years and the useful life of some units can span up to 60 years and more. In general, a operation and maintenance strategy for a power plant is set-up to achieve business targets in the market environment of the period of its project development. In conservative markets the main focus usually lies on technical availability. Especially market liberalisations and the rapid expansion of renewable energies caused changes to economic environments as newer seen before. On this background conservative operation and maintenance strategies need to be dynamically adapted. RWE had to tackle these challenges in the recent past and developed several unique approaches in the field of operation and maintenance strategy development. This market development and RWEs change journey and examples of solutions on plant- and fleet-level will be presented.
