Good visualizations are the most powerful form of communication. Our community’s energy assessment methodologies have been developed and refined over the course of decades. However, all too often the results of these methodologies are displayed with inferior plots that fall short of conveying the outputs clearly and effectively. Investing the time needed to choose the right plot and formatting can make a material difference in the quality of your charts. This presentation will distill strategies from Edward Tufte, Josef Albers, and cutting-edge, open-source conventions so that wind analysts can effectively convey their results. At least five wind specific charts will be presented to illustrate visual settings for effectively communicating wind resource analysis.
