Tracks: Time Series Energy Modeling

Downtime associated with wind turbine availability is one of the largest causes of wind farm inefficiency. Here we investigate wind turbine availability specifically associated with corrective and preventative maintenance, which is commonly portrayed as a pseudo-stochastic occurrence. Exploratory data analysis techniques, such as signal processing techniques, are employed on operational turbine availability time series data to assess whether wind turbine availability associated with corrective and preventative maintenance is a pseudo-stochastic process. These same techniques are then applied to modeled turbine availability time series data generated using a Markov Chain to compare and understand whether such a model of wind turbine availability captures the risk associated with wind turbine availability when performing time series analysis.
