Wind projects may be strategically constructed with a total project capacity in excess of what the energy offtaker can accept as the instantaneous power output (i.e. “overbuild”). This approach may be taken in order to maximize project financial performance, but must be carefully considered in order to not result in unexpected curtailment. In order to adequately calculate the energy impact of this curtailment during a pre-construction energy assessment, the interaction and temporal variability of all losses must be considered. Natural Power has developed a time series model specifically to address the interaction between other technical losses and instantaneous offtaker curtailment limit.
