Computing Blade And Ice Throw Statistics

11 Sep 18
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Tracks: Data Science and Digitalization, Poster Presentation

Blade and ice throw risk assessments are becoming increasingly important elements of permitting wind projects in some geographic areas. This presentation discusses practical aspects of this analysis including: trajectory computation using a sic degree of freedom representation with the effect of gravity, aerodynamics, and atmospheric winds; Monte Carlo simulation of blade and ice throw for a multi turbine wind park; impact analysis of a receptor site; and numerical computation of impact probability. In addition, key assumptions that are employed at different stages of the analysis will be identified and discussed. A case study will be discussed that covers all elements of the risk analysis leading to actionable information.
