The WP3 Benchmark project aims to identify and quantify the sources of uncertainty in wind plant pre-construction estimates. As part of this project, we developed a first of its kind scalable, open source reference implementation for operational assessment and calculation of key wind plant metrics. The software design includes a modular architecture capable of supporting multiple analysis methodologies and can scale up to support high resolution data sets using the Apache Spark cluster computing framework. We are releasing the software under a permissive open source license so that stakeholders across the wind industry can use this tool and modify it to fit their own business needs. In this talk we will highlight the design principals, capabilities, and features of this software and explain some key findings and lessons learned during development.
