CAPT Jeff Buss entered the Navy in 1993, after graduating from Marquette University with a BS Degree in Finance. Subsequent to commissioning, he entered Naval Aviation Schools Command in Pensacola, Florida and earned his wings as a Naval Flight Officer in July, 1995. He was assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron 129 in Oak Harbor, Washington where he was selected as the 1997 “Student Electronic Countermeasures Officer of the Year”. He then reported to Electronic Attack Squadron 133 deploying to Iwakuni, Japan, the USS Independence and Incirlik, Turkey. During this time he flew combat missions in Operation Northern Watch and was designated a Mission Commander and Combat Strike Lead in the EA-6B “Prowler”. From 1999 to 2002, CAPT Buss served as an Officer Recruiter stationed in Iowa City, Iowa and in 2000 was distinguished as the “National Officer Recruiter of the Year” by the Chief of Naval Operations. In May of 2002, CAPT Buss departed active duty service and took a position with Morgan Stanley as a Wealth Manager in their Private Client Division. In January, 2004 he was recalled to Active Duty and served as the Reserve Officer Program Manager at NAS Point Mugu, CA. He was designated as an Information Professional in 2005 and reported as the Engineering Department Head at the Naval Satellite Operation Center at NAS Point Mugu, CA where he also served as the NAVSOC Program Manager for the acquisition of the MUOS satellite. His next assignment was to Commander Third Fleet in San Diego, CA where he was the Operational Agent Lead for Sea Shield, Fleet Collaborative Team Lead for Integrated Air and Missile Defense and Staff Space and Communications Planner. In 2007, he deployed on an Individual Augmentation as the Communications Officer for CTG 515.1 supporting a Joint Special Operations Task Force.
