Dan Cohen is a Title IX and collegiate athletics attorney with Barnes & Thornburg in Atlanta. With more than 25 years of experience in higher education athletics matters, Dan's Title IX practice is extensive. He has represented university athletics departments across 33 states within the last five years, including in every FBS conference. One of the nation’s top Title IX and college athletics attorneys, Dan serves the complex and multi-faceted legal needs of college athletics departments — specializing in Title IX gender equity, athletics legal strategic planning, NIL, litigation, and sexual misconduct matters. He performs athletics audits and compliance reviews, develops strategic planning initiatives, and represents schools in investigations, litigation and appeals. He is a frequent industry speaker for several national conferences including the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC), LEAD1, and various collegiate conferences. Cohen earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School after earning his bachelor's degree in economics and public policy from Duke University. Before graduating from law school, he worked in four university athletics departments and spent two seasons working in minor league baseball.
