Dr Heeps has over 35 years experience in the marine sciences and industry sector, including 17 years in the marine renewable energy sector, with a specific focus on offshore wind. She demonstrates a varied academic and commercial career including establishing the first European Masters programme in Coastal Zone Management, a research interest in the Public Understanding of Science (including extensive TV, radio and media work) and then, whilst working for UK The Crown Estate, establishing the first 2 leasing rounds of offshore wind which has led to UK being the global leader in this sector. Whilst at The Crown Estate Carolyn was also founded COWRIE (Collaborative Offshore Wind into the Environment), a £3m charitable fund established to support a program of environmental research to understand the impact of offshore wind. Working on secondment with Orsted (NOrth America), the world’s largest offshore wind developer she provided project support within the Permitting team, with specific responsibility for Stakeholder Engagement and Communications. Carolyn joined Lloyd’s Register in June 2018 as Head of Renewables, North America. Her leadership and management skills and knowledge of emerging renewable energy markets will ensure that LR is able to expand its service provision in North America, as well as supporting other global markets for LR. Her robust marine science background, combined with excellent interpersonal skills enables her to work well with extensive teams and stakeholders. Her commercial understanding of the renewables market combined with her business development acumen has been built up over many years in the sector.
