Chief Warrant Officer Five Jose R. Cardenas, enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in 1989. He was initially assigned to Charlie Co. 549th Combat Electronic Warfare Intelligence BN, 49th Armored Division where he served as a Noncommunications Interceptor Analyst. He transitioned to active duty in 1997. In April 2003, he applied for and was accessed as an Army Warrant Officer. He attended the Warrant Officer Candidate School at the Warrant Officer Career College, Ft. Rucker, AL followed by the 352J Warrant Officer Basic Course at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. He's been assigned to Bravo Co. 319th MI BN, 525th MI BDE (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC, where he served as the Deputy TENCAP ELINT Intelligence Officer, where he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his deployment he was requested to assess and hand-selected to serve as the Deputy Electronic Warfare Officer/Technical Subject Matter Expert within the Joint Special Operations Command, Ft. Bragg, NC from Dec. 2005 to Apr. 2014. With close to a decade of Joint SOF EW combat experience and numerous other National Command Authority directed contingency missions. He later submitted an application packet for the MOS 290A, Electronic Warfare Technician and was immediately selected to attend the 290A Warrant Officer Advance Course at Ft. Sill, OK 2012. His third assignment was United States Army Special Operations Command, Ft. Bragg, NC where he served as Deputy Electronic Warfare Officer/Senior Electronic Warfare Technician from Apr 2014 to Dec 2017. From January to July 2018, Cardenas served as the Command EWO for USASOC. He was selected to be the second Chief Warrant Officer of the Branch (CWOB) for the United States Army Cyber Corps. CW5 Cardenas holds a Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology from Lamar University. His awards and decorations are typical of his rank and time in service.
