Dr. Cris Hein is the Senior Project Leader for the Environmental Portfolio at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). In this role, Cris serves as the Operating Agent for the International Energy Agency Wind-Task 34 known as WREN or Working Together to Resolve Environmental Effects of Wind Energy. In the previous 8 years, Cris was the Bats and Wind Energy Program Director for Bat Conservation International (BCI) and the Program Coordinator for the Bats and Wind Energy Cooperative (BWEC). While at BCI, Cris led research focusing on understanding and reducing bat fatalities at wind energy facilities. Cris received his B.S. in Geology from Texas A&M University in 1996, his M.S. in Biology from Texas State University in 2001, and his Ph.D. in Forestry and Natural Resources from the University of Georgia in 2008. Cris has studied bat behavior and ecology for 20 years and bats and wind energy issues for 11 years.
