Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Franz Strempfl received his electrical engineer diploma and PhD degree from the Graz University of Technology, Austria in 1994 and 1999, respectively. As an assistant professor at the department of electrical power systems in the period 1994 – 1999 he could improve his expertise in power systems by participating on several studies and projects. He switchted to the electricity industry (Energie Steiermark AG) in 1999 and worked in leading positions in the areas of grid planning, engineering, project management and particularly data management when in austria the electricity market was opened for all customers. Between 2003 and 2005 Dr. Strempfl was responsible for HV grid operation and during 2005-2007 he was head of the regional grid management centre in the northern part of Styria. Since 2008, Dr. Strempfl is general manager of Energienetze Steiermark GmbH, which is the DSO company of electricity and gas within the Energie Steiermark Group. Dr. Strempfl is Speaker of the Austrian DSO/TSO within Österreichs Energie, the association of Austrians electric utilities and board member of the European DSO association EDSO for Smart Grids. Within OVE he is member of the board as well as of OGE’s business committee.
