John D. Eckel, CSP, CET, CFPS, CHCM Sr. Technical Training Specialist John Eckel has long had interest in and passion for safety in the workplace. This interest has significantly impacted and defined his life’s training and work. His experience includes 25 years of working directly in heavy equipment manufacturing where he also served on the industrial safety, fire, and medical brigade. He next became the project manager for a county-wide emergency telephone network and radio dispatch system (911) involving the construction of four tower sites and an emergency dispatch center. He then served as safety and health manager for a global chemical company reacting solvent and acids with heavy metals. John was employed by Butler County Community College as the director of public safety and business and industry safety programs. He has been a member of the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and served as a company and chief officers positions. John is currently the assistant chief and training officer for the department. John is also a veteran of the United States Navy and Naval Reserves serving during Vietnam and Desert Shield / Desert Storm. John earned an Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Occupational and Industrial Safety and Health and just recently completed his Risk Assessment Certification from the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). John is an authorized OSHA General Industry and Construction Outreach Trainer and conducts industrial and public safety classes and programs. John, a lifelong resident of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and his wife, Mary, have two married daughters, one son, two granddaughters and two grandsons.
