Dr. Helmut Greim has studied medicine at the Universities of Freiburg and Berlin, Germany. Thereafter he had research positions in the institutes of Biochemistry and Pharmacology of the Free University of Berlin and of the Institute of Toxicology, University of Tübingen, 1970 - 1973 Visiting Research Associate Professor of Pathology, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, CUNY and Visiting Fellow of Pharmacology, Yale University. After two years back in Tübingen he in 1975 was appointed as director of the Institute of Toxicology of the GSF, a federal research center in Munich. In 1982 he became professor and director of the Institute of Toxicology and Environmental Hygiene, Technical University Munich. He retired from these positions in 2003. His research experience is drug metabolism, toxicokinetics, mechanisms of carcinogenic agents, in vitro test systems. Dr. Greim has published and contributed to many textbooks in his field. He has organized several workshops on fibee and particle toxicology and on benzene toxicity and as previous member of MAK, SCOEL and the Risk Assessment Committee of ECHA has been involved in the risk assessment of chemicals including fibers and particles. For many years he served as member and chair of the REXPAN (Research Expert Panel) of RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) and presently is member of the IDEA supervisory group.
