Professor Bridges is the Emeritus professor of Toxicology and Environmental Health at the University of Surrey, UK. Previously he held at various times the posts of: Dean for International Strategy, Head of the European Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Director of the Robens Institute of Industrial and Environmental Health and Lecturer in Biochemistry at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London University (1962-1968). For the past 34 years Jim Bridges has been a member of various UK and international scientific advisory committees to governments and their agencies. The work of these committees has covered drugs, pesticides, industrial chemicals; air, water and soil contaminants; environmental contaminants, food additives and food residues, building materials, additives in consumer products and personal care products. Professor Jim Bridges is the author or joint author of over 430 research papers, reviews, and abstracts. He is also a joint editor of 17 books. During his academic career he started the MSc programs in Toxicology and has been responsible for the training of almost 100 PhD students. He was a founder of the British ToxicologySociety, EUROTOX and of the European Drug Metabolism Workshops. His main current research interest is in the development of quantitative weight of evidence for risk assessment purposes. Other current activities include the chairmanship of the Supervisory Group for the IDEA project
