Prof Benesch has an educational background in Mechanical engineer (Power plant engineering) with a Ph.D thesis on „Mathematical modelling of fluid flow and mixing in tangential fired furnaces“. With STEAG he started in 1984. Since 2002, Prof Benesch has been Director of Energy Technologies of STEAG Energy Services GmbH in Essen, Germany. Concurrently he is Head of R&D of STEAG GmbH since 2007. Previous responsibilities include Head of Waste Treatment Department, Head of Plant Engineering Department and Head of Plant & Process Engineering Department. Throughout his career he has been active in more than 20 countries. Additionally, he is being an associate lecturer at the Ruhr University Bochum since 2009. Prof Benesch is an active member of a number of professional societies, e.g.: - VGB, chairman of the Technical Advisor Board - Member of Steering Committee Netzwerk Kraftwerkstechnik NRW - Head of Steering Committee RheinRuhrPower Furthermore, he has been awarded for an honorary professorship in April 2016.
